Solid Timber Construction is a family owned business dedicated to the use of natural materials for the hearth and home.
Glenn comes from a long line of masons and spent many summers helping his father and grandfather build brick churches, homes and fireplaces.
After attending college he was employed by the City of Bethlehem as a building inspector for the Redevelopment Authority. Shortly thereafter came love, marriage and a move to New Jersey. A chance brochure in the mailbox offering an adult education course entitled "Build Your Own Log Home" started the next leg of his career. A brief stint with a log home builder led Glenn to investigate the entire field of log home construction. As a result, he became a dealer/builder for Country Log Homes in 1979 and has never looked back.
Since then he has constructed many log homes from the mountains of Virginia, through the cities and suburbs of New Jersey, Pennsylvania, New York and up the coast of New England. He has also taught his own course of Log Home Construction to hundreds of enthusiastic students.
His love of heavy timbers and his interest in historical structures led to incorporating timber framing in his work; he has been a member of the Timber Frame Guild since 1990.
Harkening back to his roots in masonry, Glenn's interest in wood burning fireplaces evolved. He found masonry heaters after researching energy efficient and environmentally friendly wood burning systems. Commonly used throughout Europe, masonry heaters work well in the energy efficient homes that Glenn builds. As a member of the Masonry Heater Association, Glenn continues to pursue his passion for warming the hearth and home. |
